How to bring happiness to your day and why it's important

Life has its ups and downs and right now many of us have been thrown into a completely new normal. Social distancing and the restrictions put in place to flatten the curve of covid-19 cases are necessary but I am really beginning to miss the luxury of going across the street to my local bar for happy hour, getting my nails done, or to dinner with a friend just to say hey-girl-hey. This time is a reminder for me to not take everyday things I used to do for granted.

I feel it is always important to be able to bring a sense of happiness in your own life, and I feel this way more than ever since we are socially distanced from one another. Making yourself happy usually begins with small gestures and knowing what brings you joy and then doing that.

Happiness is personal, so figuring out exactly what make you feel good takes some self realization and time. I also want to say it is ok to not feel happy at times because that is life. But there is much to be grateful for and when the time comes to feel joy, it is ok to allow yourself to feel it.

Here are a few ways that may help bring a little more happiness into your days.

Light Candles
Citrus scented candles can be helpful to curb stress and anxiety. I just ordered orange and lemon scented candles and I feel more optimistic as soon and the scent begins to fill the room.

Present your meals in an Aesthetic way
This works even if you find yourself eating the same meals everyday. Put what you're eating on a cute plate or in a cute bowl then arrange your meal in a way that looks appetizing. You'll be that much happier to stuff your face.

Color!
If boredom strikes (like it probably will since we're all bored in the house and we're in the house bored), break out the colored pencils and begin to color. You can find coloring books on Amazon or your can create and color your own images. It's also a way to relive stress.

Write Down What you are Grateful For
It is easy to complain about what we don't have or what we wish was different about ourselves. I know I know I do this. Writing down everything that I am fortunate enough to have is really helpful to illustrate how good I have it, even when things are going wrong. A real life reality-check.

Buy Flowers for Yourself
Sunflowers, tulips, roses, lilies - pick your fancy. Choose a bouquet that gives you fuzzy feelings when you look at it so it can light up an area in your home each time you see it.

Put on Feel Good Music
The power of good jams is very real. Whatever music puts you in a positive mindset - turn it up, sing along and do your dance.

Look Good
If I am feeling terrible and also looking god-awful, that just makes me feel worse. I feel better about myself when I make some sort of effort to look presentable. I'm not talking about full glam but running a brush over your hair and wearing somethings that matches probably will do it.

Enjoy the Sun
Vitamin D will warm your spirit and lift your mood. Take some time out of your day to talk a walk or just bask in the sunshine.
